My Collins 618S1-4 is 100 percent original, with no modifications or changes, in addition to this it is also operational and on the air. The only exception to this is I am not using the original 416W-1 power supply and am using a control head originally built for a ARC-38 that I modified to control channel changing for the 618 The power supply I am currently using is a modified GE Master base supply that is a commonly available and lends itself to this type of operations. The receiver requires +250 for B+, the transmitter requires -50,-65, +250 and +600 all of this is supplied by the GE base supply, and in addition the old T/R relay in the supply is now used to connect the HV and exciter B+ to the transmitter by the radios dynamotor control line. The issue is to provide the 115 and 6 volt 400 cycles that is used for the IF and PA deck tuning, and in an attempt to get the “dynamotor experience “am now looking at using the inverter. Yes I did build a 614C-2 control head from a ARC-38A head but not like theirs a lot of 614 heads around, and I did build a 350S-1 mount tray but I have exhausted about every source before doing these things but don’t accuse me of pointlessly hacking the radio, it completely original and operational, well except for the servo sub systems! But with the case removed its no huge problem to manually tune the IF and PA deck. Pictures of the radio and existing power supplies, head and interconnections can be seen on my web page at:
