The BC-342 was used with the BC-312 in the SCR-199 radio set that
used the BC-610 transmitter. BC-312 was DC powered so could be used
without firing up the generator set; and BC-342 was AC powered.
I know the BC-779 was popular as an aircraft control tower
receiver.
Don't know about the SX-28 or the intercept receivers. I have a
document about English intercept operations, where they said that
none of their receivers were suitable for the purpose and that the
American HRO was the right receiver to have. It doesn't give the
reason for this. One I can think of is that the HRO as a single-dial
receiver might be more accurately resettable to a given frequency
than the typical two-dial receivers like the SX-28 and BC-779 family.
