Your construction description a HUGE help.  That stripped
coax center conducter IS capacity coupled to the metal
sheath.  It makes a "fat whip" with no concern about
getting a good sheath-bond to the feed line.  Ingeneous.

The 'armor factor' if true is a side benefit.
