I don't have a horse in this race, since I'm not too active on the ham bands except for a little casual Morse operation, and some SSB when on vacation at a campsite.

I thought that 3885 kc became a natural choice for boatanchor AM operation because many vintage military sets had 3885 kc as a commonly encountered crystal set. I don't think 3685 kc has that quality. For example, the SCR-543 (BC-669) crystal set contains crystals for 3610, 3630, 3650, and 3680 kc operation. I don't know about other crystal-controllable sets, like the BC-610, BC-611, TCS, TBX, MAB/DAV, etc. Did any of those have standard crystal frequencies that included the proposed 3685 kc?

I guess it really doesn't matter.
