[Milsurplus] Bat bombing in Pacific

AIR CLASSICS magazine for March 2007 has an article "Bat Victory: How a 

US Navy PB4Y-2 Privateer  destroyed a Japanese destroyer with the first 

successful use of a guided missile. By Gerald M. Kenyon.

This is an account by the plane's Bat bomb control officer of Privateer 

conventional attacks against shipping and also Bat bomb launches. The

"Bat" was the first independent, self-guided missile;  apparently had its

own radar, altho the article isn't terribly clear on how it was readied to launch.

"To my knowledge, this was the only time a Bat worked."
