I don't want to go search for my TM-11-227-E now, but isn't this, as i recall,
the "53-C Intelligence Receiver" ( third line down, on unit nameplate ) ?
That is a 2-tube regenerative receiver. I don't think anyone (now) really
knows why it was called "Intelligence Receiver", maybe just because it
was so small? There was no matching transmitter. Of course all milsurplus
readers saw that it has no indicating meter at all, and knew at once it has no
transmit function. ( Practical rule of thumb, which is also true. ) Looks like it
was built 10th month 1939, if i read the plate right? Steve Bartkowski also
has one. He offered to trade it for a PRC-5 of mine. No way i would trade a
receiver + transmitter for a receiver only. -Hue Miller
