One thing:
If you want maximum performance from your BC-611,
antenna tuning is very critical.
You must do the tuning while holding the rig with the
case on, so a "tuning case" is essential. Your body is part of
the antenna (think counterpoise).
Holding the rig with the antenna fully extended
and in the clear, using the test set and a field strength meter
has worked best here. The manual calls for tuning it with
the antenna folded, but that is with a very specific load
in the official test set.
If you set the rig down and listen, you will notice a
big drop in sensistivity. Shorten the antenna an eighth of an inch
at a time and it will re-tune for "desktop listening."
The length in this situation is also critical, so don't rush.
