Agreed. I have one of the "official" 2-D-Cell holders for each of
my 611s. I had one short the stack to the case
They expanded and leaked, creating nasty acid damage and
were the very devil to get out.
The plastic "insulation" on the bar from one battery to the other
scratches easily and shorts out to the case. Just keep a pocket full
of good-quality single "D" cells. If you have a brass from a
50-caliber machine gun, it's a perfect spacer and even
called out in the manual. Ask a friend in Iraq to send you a
couple, perhaps.
