Because it's a move in the direction of smaller and more compact. No leg
sockets on it either as far as can be seen from the Bay photos. My suspicion
was that Philco may have been given a contract to see what they could do to
squeeze down the 284 while, at the same time, Ruland was put to work on a new
configuration which won out and became the 1306 followed the GRC-9.
Understand you bought the box so a look inside should offer clues as to
whether it's pre or post the common form of SCR-284. Please give us all a report
on what you fine inside.
