>Have an ARW-17 fm rx here. 31-40 mhz fm rx that decodes 5 tones

The R-64/ARW-17 can be set to any one of 18 crystal-controlled frequencies in the 30 to 42 MHz range. But even the WWII Confidential AN/ARW-17 maintenance manual does not give the actual value of the channel carrier frequencies or the associated crystal frequencies. The channels are designated by phonetic alphabet combinations, such as ABEL or ABEL-HOW. I'm looking for any example of such a crystal unit for my R-64, should anyone have a surplus unit (fat chance!).

The only R-64/ARW-17 that I've ever seen was made under US Navy contract. The manual mentions use with the AN/ARW-3 control transmitter.

>So anyway, connector is same as one on MD-7/ARC5.

Almost, but not quite. The connector on the R-64 is a PL-153 18-pin connector, which is the same that is used for the ATA and SCR-274-N modulators.

The MD-7/ARC-5 uses a much much harder to find A.R.C. 9585 18-pin connector, which has pin 1 located in a different position than on the PL-153.

>Dogtag doesn't show mfgr. Could it have been Acft Radio Corp.?

If you look at the IF cans, it will remind you of the IF cans found on the common BC-1206-C beacon band receivers made by Detrola. The USN contractor code on the R-64/ARW-17 is CDT, which is in fact Detrola, and the integral dynamotor nameplate states that it is made for International Detrola Corporation.
