The NorthWest Military Radio Enthusiasts group will be operating from
Fort Stevens Oregon this coming weekend. Fort Stevens is a coastal
defense installation at the mouth of the Columbia River, near Astoria
Oregon. The Fort was active from Civil War times until WWII but is now
an Oregon State Park with campgrounds, a small museum, and many outdoor
exhibits & fortifications which are open to the public.
The NWMRE group plans HF operations commencing Thursday Aug 9 in late
afternoon and continuing until early afternoon on Sunday Aug 12. We
will be on 3996 KHz USB at the top of the hour, and on 7296 at H+15min.
Also, hoping against hope that HF propagation is on the upswing, we will
also frequently try both the 10M armyradios calling freq of 28465 KHz
USB and the hfpack freq of 18157.5 KHz USB.
There will be FM ops on 51.0 MHz & 52.525 MHz.
For HF ops we will set up a good-sized v-beam, and will also be using
a variety of both military & commercial antennas. Radios in use will
include PRC-104s and a PRC-174, GRC-9s, a Sunair URC-92, and a TRC-75 in
an M38A1 jeep. VHF FM ops will use PRC-77s, a PRC-124, several PRC-68s,
plus whatever else the usual suspects can dredge up from their various
garages.
This NWMRE activity is in conjunction with an Oregon Military Vehicle
Collectors Club outing at Ft. Stevens. The OMVCC will have vehicles on
display at the Fort for the entire weekend and there will be several
vehicle parades through the Ft. Stevens campground. Also, "Friends of
Willie & Joe" will be at Fort Stevens for the weekend and will be
involved in several WWII re-enactments.
So join us this weekend, either on the air or better yet, drop in at
Fort Stevens and say hello in person.
