[Milsurplus] Proximity fuse today?

I wonder if something like proximity fuse is still being used in more or
less ordinary caliber ordinance? I saw on the Pentagon Channel an
interesting story on a helicopter - ground forces combat and i was thinking
that suppressive fire from the choppers might be especially effective
if a proximity fuse detonated shrapnel above the ground gunners' heads.
It also seemed that some kind of delayed tracers might be a useful idea;
otherwise the tracers also lead the enemy fire to you.
I also saw on this channel the story of 3 Humvees ambushed by 50
some insurgents. Humvees were being peppered with bullets like
rain. A young lady GI was telling how she was firing a
grenade launcher while hunkering down to keep a low profile. One
medic was firing two weapons, one each direction. With steady
fire discipline and orderly response they neutralized and destroyed
the ambush. Man oh man. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
