Was looking thru a recently unpacked " SURPLUS RADIO CONVERSION
MANUAL Volume III ". Thanks to former owner W6NTR, Jack Clement, of
Van Nuys, CA, here are some pencilled in notations:
"To check whether fils are wired in series or in parallel ( with 12v tubes used):
Connect ohmmeter to 1-2 dynamotor socket (J2) terminals. If reading is abt
7 to 9 ohms, fils are in series ( 24 volt supply ). If res is abt 2 ohms, the fils
a in parallel ( for 12 volt supply ). Ohmmeter check B+ to ground should show
about 15,000 ohms.
"in an emergency, the 24 volt dynamotor will deliver 95 to 100 volts DC @ 30
mA to operate a Command Receiver. This is okay for earphone volume. It works
real good, and will work even better if screen voltage is hooked to high B+ side of
voltage divider".
End quote. The sentence just above is the one that's (maybe) interesting, as we
kind of discussed this item a few months back. Also kind of ties in with Dave
Stinson's "Running on low voltage" recommendations.
BTW, i also unearthed an SCR-240/ 261 manual. Odd looking "Command
Radios" pre-SCR-274, and i have NEVER even heard of anyone having such
a beast. IIRC, freq range something like 3000-8000. Also found a manual for
a Navy MB, close enuff circuitry-wise to be useful in sorting out my ME-1 aircraft
trans-receiver. -Hue Miller
