Well, maybe. But consider that it's probably less error prone to speak of an
O-215/ARC-38 than it would be to have to say Stablized Master Oscillator
sub-assembly that was used in RT-311/ARC-38 from serial number nnnn+0 through
serial number nnnn+mmmm ordered on Contract NXSr-ppppp.

And consider the recent thread here that mentioned un-numbered canvas covers
for several sets that some people would be happy to find. Except that with no
identifying marks, unless they are found with the unit they belong to,
they're difficult to impossible to ID, expecially for someone who can barely spell
radio who's cleaning out his uncle's garage after the uncle died. The CW-4 and
CW-5 made earlier (for ATA/ARA and etc.) have no markings on them. I've got
boxes full of the small one but only know it because I know where they came
from and I recognized them when I opened the first box, having seen the on racks
before. Otherwise, they just look like pill or condiment bottle covers (to
the nephew).

So let's not look a gift horse in the mouth, regardless of whose tax dollars
paid for it. :-)
