Group,
I think that this may be the complete list, if I haven't forgotten one. Or
at least in 45 years of collecting it's all that I've come across that were
actually commercially published. I have all of them on the shelf here, plus
extras of two or three.
"The Surplus Radio Conversion Manual Volume No. 1", Evanson & Beach, 1948,
Digest size, Orange covers, Conversion articles, Three editions differing only
in binding method (Third edition is center folded and stapled - first two are
paper bound).
"The Surplus Radio Conversion Manual Volume No. 2", Evanson & Beach, 1948,
Digest size, Green covers, Conversion articles, One edition (AFAIK despite the
fact that there were three editions of Volume 1), Paper bound.
"The Surplus Radio Conversion Manual Volume No. 3", Orr, 1960, Letter size,
Blue covers, Conversion articles, One edition, Center-folded and stapled.
"The Surplus Handbook Volume 1, Receivers and Transceivers", Caringella &
Clark, 1959, Yellow covers. Schematics and photographs, One edition, GBC bound.
"Surplus Conversion Handbook", Kneitel, 1964 (Cowan No. 122), Digest size,
Yellow & black covers, Conversion articles, One edition, Paper bound.
"Surplus Schematics Handbook", Grayson, 1960, Letter size, Red and black
covers, Schematics, One edition, Paper bound.
"Command Sets", Editors of CQ (Cowan No. 106), 1957, Digest size, Yellow
covers, Conversion articles, One edition, Paper bound.
Unknown title, author and date, Letter size, Unknown covers, Conversion
articles (heavy on SCR-522 and BC-375), Probably only one edition, Stapled. I have
approximately the middle out of this one but can't lay my hands on it
tonight. I probably haven't looked at it in a quarter century but it's around here
somewhere. I found it in a two-way radio shop near MLU around 1970.
The Department of Commerce did three volumes of schematics and alignment
information to try to aid the surplus sellers. But all information was extracted
from TM 11-310, so nothing new there.
And there is also a useful volume named "Power Up", Strom, 1994, Letter size,
Yellow covers, Military battery modifications/substitutions, One edition,
Paper bound.
