The issue of reengineering is an interesting one. Consider:
The WS 19 Mk II that was made by Philco in the US for lend lease is a virtual
clone of the UK and Canadian versions, down to using (mostly ?) BA hardware and
the EF-50 valve/tube.
On the other hand, the Magnetron was essentially redesigned so it could be made
by Raytheon by stamping and furnace brazing, rather than the very difficult task
machining of a copper billet.
I've not had much of a chance to look at other sets but would be interested in
people's comments on the question.
