While you're generally correct, Will, there is a large sub-culture 
in wine that does fit my example.  We have a big one here in Dallas;
a wine wholesaler who deals in seconds, spoils, fire aftermaths and
overstocks.  He holds lavish, expensive "tasting" parties where fake "critics"
rave about the wonderful wines he then peddles to the gullible for 
obscene prices.  National critics have called his wines "paint thinner"
and "moldy turpentine," but his loyal following of hundreds of sheep 
will defend him to the very death before acknowledging they've been
hoodwinked. If they admitted it to themselves, they'd no longer be invited
to "hob knob" with other "elites."  It's pitiful and sad,
and he laughs all the way to the bank.
