That "surplus manual" comment on the RAL:  keep in mind the context of this caption
amongst the others. Didn't the comment on the BC-640 say "it generates TVI with
the filaments off" ? And the comment on the CRT-3 nickname is wrong also. These
captions were penned by a couple gents who were not particularly well informed 
technically or in the history of the gear. Recall Kneitel's comment that the GE BC-375
engineers reaction to the SCR-274?  The intent of these captions was NOT particularly
any kind of precision - they were to entertain.
Also, if something is complete, how do you "convert" it? I suppose you could take the
nameplate off. Add a cigarette lighter.
