Yo Richard

The RAL, neat tho it may be, is about useless on a crowded band when
big adjecant sigs drive it 'outa bloop.' IE, no AGC

But running jurrassic rxs w/o cw AGC is common. Nothing had audio-derived
agc 'til 50s & u just sat there & rode the rf gain. But superhets just
overload & recover sorta fast however a regen recovery's something else
(ask the man who drives a bc186 in cx)

I've got a RAL & think it's a ball to use in one-on-one qsos - don't
get me wrong. I wonder if that's the LOP condx W8AU wrote up?

Now the Navy had another regen concurrent per Chips 275. The RAZ-1. Had
'37-style metal octals. Bet it was an emergency-only reissue of
something b4. Note it had a cat's whisker if batteries and all else
failed. Radiomarine set so it turned fm civvy junk to MAHNLY gi-issue
with id-tag install

  Marty
