I agree with your impression, Ben.
I prefer it to the GRC-9 when I work on some 80 M "old military" nets, and
for casual CW work with OD gear...
The transmitter also puts out more than the GRC-9, I guess the PA stage is
less lossy due to no bandswitching.
The down side is that if using it with a 50 ohm antenna system, you need a
series capacitor to achieve matching, as it has no "Doublet" setting in
the ATU control.
