[Milsurplus] SCR-284 installation varieties?

Interesting. As we've (some of us maybe the hard way) learned, what was done
didn't always follow the "book". And for that matter, the majority of the TM
11-2700 series have 1945 dates (written after the fact).

I have a photo around here somewhere showing a PE-103 in a Jeep in Italy
powering a BC-1306. But you can't tell from the photo how they were powering the
receiver.

Another SCR-284 odd installation is shown in the SCR-284 manuals. Radio is
mounted in what I'm sure must be one of the early half ton Command Cars (very
few were built) on the FM-41 behind the drivers seat and in front of the left
rear passemger seat. It is, according to the instructions, secured to the
vehicle by two (only) canvas straps. And the battery cables run forward to the
left of the drivers seat, out the side of the vehicle and into the engine
compartment where the hot lead (plus or minus depending on how the vehicle was
wired) is attached directly to the stud on the starter relay (solenoid). The
battery cable that was attached to that point is attached to the stud on the
terminal on the end of the hot lead. I always wondered what the purpose of those
two studs was.

Can you imagine how securely those two canvas straps held the radio in place?
:-) FWIW, the 3/4 ton Command Car installation manual does not show the
SCR-284 at all. And there is no installation manual for the 1/2 ton, or at least
none listed in FM 21-6.
