It is also pretty hard to break a Navy MG set. They can take a lot of
abuse and neglect before they head south. Like any high quality motor
of the era, you could ignore the things for months and not notice any
effect on the output. Way more than the tube and CuO rectifiers during
World War 2 - it seems that the Navy would only spec these rectifiers
for shore equipments.
The Signal Corps was never big into MG sets. A few 1930s sets have
them, apparently carrier by six apes. Oddly, one of them (SCR-132, I
think) has a very unique motor - the only single phase, 110 VAC, 5 HP
motor I have ever seen.
