Well Clete, I guess we are ol' airdales, well at least I am in good company.

I will try post a couple of chart examples this week. I never personally 
shot a full range approach.  But sure used the  airways up in Canada and 
Alaska and overseas. I believe Australia was the last of the range airways 
in the late sixties and they were Victor or VHF A/N airways and were 
excellent, lot better,more accutrate  and easier to use. Then came More 
Loran,VOR,TACAN,DME, LoranC,Omega etc, etc, took out the fun out it.
