You're right, Mike, it isn't practical to be switching between LF
facilities while on an approach.  Intersecting range legs was an
airways thing.   I knew of one case where the aircraft had four
LF beacons in a row to touch base with, but the copilot or a
third crewmember cranked the receiver around.   That was not
the way anyone wanted it to be.  You ever see that old movie
where the pilot, Andy Devine maybe, while flying a C-47 by
himself had a set of tongs to reach up and turn the overhead
knobs?
