I did a Yahoo for "US Navy Blimps" and got a few good hits including a
link to Moffet Field and their museum. In the history page it is
mentioned that Blimps carried carrier pidgeons and part of a sailor's
training in LTA craft was the care and feeding of pidgeons (in addition
to tuning up the GP!).
Also came upon this link to a really cool picture:

Paul,Don, and All
Actually it is "Beneath the Southern Cross".I watched the scene a few
times and the GP is the dominant item in the picture. The scene lasts
maybe 3 seconds at most and no pan.Possibly you can see a receiver rack
mounted above the GP but I cannot be sure as I am not familliar with
the RAX, except what I've seen on ebay, and the focus was poor.
I wonder if a visit to Moffet Field might turn up some photoes? There
is a small museum in Hanger One with some neat stuff. It's been years
since I've been there and I've heard rumors that the hanger may be torn
down in the near future. Also Hiller Aviation Museum may have some
archived photoes too.Haven't been there yet.

I think it's called "Under The Southern Crescent".

Thanks Don for at least verifying what I saw was a GP xmtr. I'm
anxiously
awaiting what you report after you look at that scene again.

Tnx

It's definitely a GP transmitter. I dunno about the RAX though. The
picture
is pretty dark. I'll go back and look at it.
