Hi, Dave,
> Let me add to the kudos, and note that this approach
not only preserves the integrity of the radio (since
he makes no permanent changes in the sets), but it
also will extend the life of the original componants
by removing the stresses of high voltage. I think
it's outstanding.
I agree.
For some reason, having to replace the batteries every
day or two because that's how it was done "back when"
is only good for reinactors. For me, I'd rather
preserve the life of the piece as much as possible and
then use something like LiPo batteries with the set.
Okay, yeah, I'll put the battery into an original box
if I want to make it look good but that's about as far
as I'll go with that.
Flip side ... I have a Chinese 102E set (Chinese copy
of the GRC-9) and it would be fun to put the
semiconductor replacements in it since I'm not going
to be too concerned about keeping it original. I can
put the battery in the rear space then use the
existing battery leads for other things ... says here
in the fine print <G>
Best regards,
Michael, K3MXO
PS: I wonder how well a Command receiver would work
with SS replacements ... <G>
