This article is about 10 pages long and includes diagrams.

There are many military rigs that run on 3 phase power, mostly Navy 
rigs. The AN/WRT-1 and 2 are good examples.

This is why I was very interested in trying to discover some method of 
powering them from normal single-phase house current.

Although I am not completely sure, I think the above method would 
work.

Now if it would produce 400 Hz power as easily...
