Perhaps the pilots would take a ZB bearing before the attack when they do
have some altitude, just to get a rough idea. After a half hour of battle
(which would be a very long fight), the home carrier probably did not
travel too far, relatively speaking.

I would like to talk to an airman that actually used it and remembers the
details.
