Perhaps the low plate voltage and the low grid drive on the two PA tubes
in the ARC-5 transmitter result in a unusually clean operation. Think I
may be able to borrow a transmitter along with modulator and do a couple
test, can set up a couple different spectrum analyzers feed from a Delta
loop sample coil that I normally use for doing AM broadcast proofs.
couple questions though, what is the recommenced plate and B+ voltages?
and what is the ideal load resistance for the antenna? and finally how
heavily do you modulate it in AM mode? would think they run nowhere near
100 % modulation, I know whit the AM Ham transmitters I do not run them
above 70 to 80 % to prevent splatter, if you over modulate any AM
transmitter it will generate wide band splatter no matter how well
built.
