Or that Ford didn't buy engines from Willys-Overland for some of their 
early tractors either.

My understanding is that Willys, or some other company (Continental?) 
built "industrial" engines for many other companies.

For instance, my stock 1956 Jeep Sedan Delivery had a 6 cylinder 
"industrial" engine in it. When I went to find parts for the carburetor, it 
turned out to be a "Continental" "industrial" engine.

BTW, it got HORRIBLE gas mileage: about 9 MPG and only had a 10 
gallon gas tank. I changed the jets in the carb to smaller ones in an 
attempt to increase the gas mileage. A couple of months later, I had 
burned a hole in a piston, so yanked the engine and replaced it with a 
much later AMC 6, transmission and other bits from a Jeep pickup, and 
had a machinist friend make a 25 gallon gas tank for it.

THAT combo got over 25 mpg.

The rig sure made a nice mobile radio station.
