The SCR-399 was a mobile set that could be operated dismounted, not a
portable set that could be operated in
a vehicle (like the SCR-300 or later AN/PRC-10 or AN/PRC-25).

Friend Cecil Royce, age 86, was an Army radio op in North Africa during
WWII. Cecil said the BC-610 he operated was mounted in a B24. They provided
advanced base comm to Bomber Command in England or the US. He said they
would land, deploy the generator through the bomb bay, then set up antennas.
The aircraft/BC-610 set up was used across Africa and into Italy but put out
of service as not needed when the troops reached Rome. I took Cecil to one
of the West Coast MRCG meets in San Luis Obispo which he enjoyed but now he
doesn't like to travel too much. Anyone else heard of this use of the
BC-610??
