A fluxgate compass uses a remote transmitter, often in the tail of the plane, to
give magnetic headings. It works kinda like a selsyn. The magnet saturates parts
of a torroid wound with a primary (1 phase) and secondary (3 phase) coils. The
indicator position follows the transmitter angle. There is usually a
transmitter, indicator, and a small inverter.
