OK, gang, now that we have all our frequency meter cal. books all
printed, here is my next quest: I hold in my hands an Air Force
Manual, AFM 100-33, 1 Aug 1960 which is very informative. Maybe too
informative. The title is "Army, Navy, and Commercial Communications
Systems". Subtitled USAF Communications-Electronics Doctrine, Short
Title CED 3300.
Within the 70 or so pages of text, maps and line drawings, it gives
an overview of every communications system on the face of the planet
which is or might be available to the USAF (besides their own) for
medium or long haul communications. There is a foldout page with a
couple dozen blocks all connected by lines, RUEP TO RUAG and so
forth, STARCOM Routing diagram (Army). Similar treatment of
worldwide Navy comms. The Bell system (remember this is 1960) is
covered in a dozen pages, including TD-2, and TH microwave, and VF, L-
1 and L-3 cable routes. ITT, RCA International, Western Union, they
are all in there. Just about everything you would want to know about
how to get a message from here to there, or more importantly to
certain people, where the principal nodes are located.
Two questions: Has anyone else ever seen a copy of this document, or
even heard it existed?
Is there a current edition of same, maybe under a different number or
is it now classified as this probably should have been?
73,
George
