That's interesting because I just got a NOS RS-38A from Robert Downs and
the Telephonics Corp tag on it says:
Operating Instructions

Rob,
At a normal "shack" conversational speech volume with the stock RS-38
mike,
it's around 30%. I'm not talking about screaming into the mike as it was
originally done in high noise environment...
