Didn't dig into it.   The symptom as I remember was distorted audio and a 
tendency to overload on strong signals.   Anyway, had been using a 392 with the 
ATC so had the plug right there ready to go and I used it.   (The 808 and 392 
are plug compatible for muting and 28 volts in.)   W6GER who has a GRC-14 
reports the same problems when running off 115vac, BTW.

Haven't run the set much above 40M but have heard they aren't much good on 
10M.   Not much good on SSB either, but more BFO injection might help.   Big, 
heavy brute and I haven't been motivated to dig into it very deeply.   One 
pleasant surprise was tuning calibration all the way down to 1500 kc even though 
the book and the bandswitch labels list 2.0 mc as the lower frequency limit.   
Don't know if they were all like this or not.
