Wow. The list of various electronics equipments is stunning in its
numbers. Even 2 O'scopes. That would be unimaginable to the
electronics staff of the U-boats and RO-boats.
Say, a question on the submarine HF antenna. That would just be a
sloping wire from the conn tower forward, right? I forget what those
were called, "jumper wires" or "flying wires" or something like that?
It seems to me the antenna situation would be similar to an aircraft
fore & aft antenna, i.e. horizontal radiation mostly cancelled out, giving
effectively a short vertical. Of course, the ground plane could hardly be
beat, and no electric fences or vehicle ignitions to spoil the reception.
