If the 16 Volts is RMS, then the rectifier is giving
you the Peak DC value, (1.4 X 16).  You could
give a thought to reducing the size of the input capacitor
in the filter, or even place a choke in the input lead
before the capacitor.  You don't get Peak DC when
you use a Choke Input Filter.  How many Henries
do you need in the choke?   Say about 8.  If your
filter has a choke in it now, why not move to the
input side of the filter?     Good Luck, Experimenter.
