Electronic regulation is easy.  Parallel enough power transistors to 
handle the current, or look for those high-power Darlington block 
transistors that show up in the flea markets.  It works for me - I have 
a 28 volt supply that regulates within 10 mv, (it's hard to measure) 
0-30 amps.  With heavier rectifiers it would go higher.
