Thanks, Mike - got one of the ZB-3 units recently from Steve Finelli,
complete and unissued in the original box. Was amazed and a bit
shocked when I unwrapped one piece and found the date of Sept 5 1941
stamped on it. Talk about getting a chill down your spine.

See below.

Like you, this is more a case of 'every possible piece, just in case'
for me. I was given a complete RU-16/GF-11 a few years back by a
friend, and have since located a complete spares kit from August Link
and the ZB-3 unit from Steve. I haven't seen many photos of the RU/GF
gear, muchless one with all accessories or ancillary units attached.
Most of the blame for my fixation goes to Mike Hanz as his web pages
are an endless source of information and amazement for me. (o: Can't
begin to estimate how many hours I've spent scouring his AAF site,
along with the amount of help he's given me directly. In fact, the
picture he has at the bottom of the 'Peripherals-mikes' page shows the
backseat(?) of a OS-2U Kingfisher with the DU on the top shelf and
what looks like the RU receiver beneath with a ZB atop or above it. If
this is an accurate set up, it would seem to indicate that both units
were indeed used in the same installation. Interestingly there's a
big, yellow 'M' on the GF transmitter next to the RU. Hmmm....W.E.
gear from the ARC Morgue?

Of course, once I find a DU to complete the lineup, I'll be back to
ask all about wiring for cables and things to watch for when bringing
the station to life. I still need to get some splines (both types) and
a Loop switch, too.
Many thanks to all -
