Joe,
Dead band, look first for a dead xtal. Fair Radio has spares last time I
looked. Low sensitivity, first check the tubes. At 28 volts B+ these are
working way out on the extreme ends of their characteristic curves. Don't have
to drift much to be out of operating range.
Other stuff:
6AK5 works ok as replacement for the 6AJ5
I've had slugs break loose from their adjusting screws on the RF tuning
racks. Glue back in place with epoxy.
Double value of coupling cap from BFO to 2nd detector for better ssb
reception.
Mating plug for front panel power/control receptacle hard to find.
