While stationed at RAF Mildenhall, one of the members of our church was a
former member of the British SAS who served in Malasya. He told me that they
(the SAS), in fact, did have a method where by a sort of "spike" was driven
into a tree, and they could load their transmitters up using the tree as an
antenna. I cannot remember whether or not they employed some sort of
counterpoise (vines, maybe!!). He also said that they were not all that
efficient.....From his tone, I would say he was being sarcastic....much the
same as him refering to the sinking of the Titanic as being a "boating
accident"!
A long-time friend of mine, and a "Green Beanie" for 24 years, described
some very small, extremely light weight and rugged antenna wire that they
shot into trees (didn't mention how) that they called "spider wire". About
the only thing that I can find that is close to this stuff is PolyStealth
#26 from The Wire Man. Anybody have any other info on "spider wire"?
