  The difficulty with operating dynamotors at half their rated input
  voltage is not so much that they won't put out a reasonable supply
  voltage, but that the voltage starts to wander all over the place with

  changes in load.  That may or may not cause a problem with the device
  being powered.  Best to try it and see!  Empirical solutions are
usually
  the best.

I would not do it. Without going into a lot of motor theory, you will be
abusing the machine by overcurrents in the primary circuit if the dyno
is putting out it's rated power.

You could easily trade for a 12 V unit or get a 24 V supply. That's the
better way to go, IMO. You might also think of a dynaverter.
