More seriously, the TA-2* isn't that large physically, just a different 
configuration from the usual - 
http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/bendix1.htm has a photo.  My 1942 Navy 
aircraft radio training manual lists the TA-2-G and -J as being paired 
with the RA-1B in VR class aircraft.  Given the fact that the RA-1B was 
a general coverage receiver, it would seem to need a general coverage 
transmitter to match it.  None of the smaller Bendix transmitters fill 
that bill, to my knowledge, but of course the military wasn't 
necessarily restricted to a Bendix product.   For that reason, I've 
learned never to say never...
