Ian, these are great little transmitters! No conversion necessary, just get  
the correct plug, tuning unit for 80 or 40 meter. BTW, if you use a carbon 
mike,  put an external 200 ohms (IIRC) resistor in your mike circuit; this was 
done in  the control box in the original setup.
 
Also, the antenna was "part of" the the final tank tuning circuit (short  
antenna on the air plane and added capacitance to ground). I moved the  
adjustable tap down to about 3 or 4 turns from the bottom, and it loaded up OK  on a 
dipole or long wire.
