I've still got a MT-652/GR around somewhere.  It is just as Robert described, with the stud meant to engage a cross-member in a hole in the upper side of the front panel casting.

They show up on ebay every once-in-a-while (one within the last month).  Overall, I consider it to be a piece of junk.

The only right-angle contraption in the 1950s vintage VRC/GRC sets was the UG-306/U right-angle BNC connector.  It wasn't required or specified as part of the AN/PRC-16 system.
