Well, I can tell you what happened to about 50 of those card file cabinets.  A group of 4 of us bought them from DRMO at Kelly Field back in the early 1990s.  They make good parts cabinets, even the XYL has one in her office for craft supplies.  Always wondered what they had been used for.  Sadly, they did not come with the nomenclature cards.
