> David sez VLF loop betw periscope shears (whazzat - like outboard's prop
'mech. fuze')
> Someone else sez 'the bomb on a boomer' not on VLF but ULF near 40hz - WOW!
> Refernce to Pampanito's web site. GREAT! That sub a stunning collection
of mech & electronic technology.
Paul & David, I bet the book on the loop is still in Pampanito's library
I did some duty on LST-325 & found scads of doc going back to WW-2. Plus
piles of doc on radars & SW B-C gear while Greeks used her as, probably,
a propaganda/numbers stn. and a detection platform for low-flying
Mediteranean bogies.
So there's a chance the answer to a manual lies right there on Fisherman's
wharf.
I sold Pampanito the ARC-4 that got replaced by the SCR-624. My contact
was one Rich Pekelney & that might help.
BTW ARC-4 was WE 233 designed for "Douglas Racer" - read DC3. 140-144mhz.
Navy bought a batch for the Pacific very early on & b4 SCR522. Ft.
Monmouth man, on discovering this 50 yrs later, sed "so that's why the
subs cudn't hear us (army)"
info overload
Marty
