Thanks to everyone for their comments.
I don't think there are enough interested older hams
to keep VHF AM viable. The younger ones couldn't care
less, nor do they understand anything that doesn't give
them a "roger beep" when they release the PTT; I'd hate to
think what one of them would do, trying to tune up a Clegg 99er.

29 MC AM is not much better,
but it's orders of mangitude more active than 50.4.
Six meters was wide open down here yesterday evening.
I could hear lots of activity north and east in my mobile.
A single call near 50.125 got an answer.
I called "CQ" half a dozen times on 50.4 AM and got nothing.
I listened and heard two very faint carriers that were in and out-
probably locals in the northeast.
I think I'm going to put the TBYs on 29.0 MC;
the chances of ever talking to someone are much better.
