The one I flew on had all the nav training gear removed and had been turned into an equivalent of the C-131. It was used as the base commander's utility aircraft at Blytheville AFB. I flew as a passenger in it from Blytheville (AR) AFB to Wright-Patterson in Dayton, OH, and back.
All through the trip I was tempted to ask if it would be OK to fire up the BC-348, but I decided not. Anyway, I didn't have phones or a tie-into the interphone system. But I clearly remember being very surprised to see the AN/ARC-8 gear still flying with the USAF that July in 1970.
