The T-29(x) mentioned by Mike below was a Convair
240 or 340 in civilian life. It was not a "tail-dragger"
as was the C-47/DC-3 series aircraft.
The primary usage for the T-29 was for training of
Air Force Navigators. The T-29B and T-29C (IIRC)
were in use for my time at Undergraduate Navigator
School at Harlingen AFB, TX from 1961-1962. They
were also used for the same purpose at James Connaly
AFB at Waco, TX. The T-29D model was used at Mather
AFB, CA for bombardier training. Again, IIRC, the bombing
system was virtually identical to that of B-47 and B-52
aircraft at that time. I believe I remember having seen
ART-13 on those birds back in 1961-1963.
I chose to go to Electronic Warfare Officer School, then
just moved from Keesler AFB, MS to Mather. No choice
other than to go to SAC and I wanted to be able to get
the electronic training AND to eject UPWARDS if that
became necessary. Our training aircraft were C-54s that
had flown in Berlin Airlift and converted with ECM xmtrs
and rcvrs.

In the early 1970s, I saw an AN/ARC-8 still installed on an in-service USAF
T-29 (twin-engine C-47 sized aircraft). But I suspect that it saw little or
no actual use at that late date.
